Liferay DXP is the platform, and its content management is sold as the CMS and headless CMS capability. It sits next to a DAM, page builder, commerce, personalization and low-code tools. Earlier versions were called Liferay Portal. Liferay describes its CMS as an open-source, API-first headless CMS and the platform as a digital experience platform designed for complexity.
Content is available through REST and GraphQL APIs for existing front ends, mobile apps and other channels, and editors can also edit pages with drag and drop. You can run it as SaaS, PaaS or self-hosted, on-premise or in your own cloud. A free Community download exists. Paid subscriptions add platform-exclusive functionality, and Liferay does not publish their prices.
