Pages CMS is an open-source CMS that edits content and media files directly in a GitHub repository, set up with one .pages.yml file. Use the free hosted app or host it yourself.

Overview

Pages CMS is an open-source CMS for static sites stored in GitHub repositories. A .pages.yml file in the repository defines the content, media and fields. Editors work in a web app that saves each change back to GitHub as a commit.

Strengths

  • Free and MIT licensed, with a free hosted version so there is nothing to install.
  • Set up with one YAML file in the repository.
  • Collaborators can be invited by email and edit without a GitHub account.
  • Custom buttons can start GitHub Actions workflows, for example a deploy.

Watch out for

  • GitHub only: no GitLab or Bitbucket.
  • Self-hosting needs PostgreSQL, a GitHub App and an HTTPS proxy.
  • No AI features in the product.
  • No translation or review workflow in the docs.
